* South Korea

Catholics comprise 10% of the total Korean population; the rest is divided between a 60% of Buddhist and a 30% of Christians belonging to other denominations. The presence and first expansion of the Catholic Church in Korea started through lay missionaries, what helps explaining their present-day commitment and vitality; still, it is a Church clearly defined by the diocesan clerical organization making difficult for religious congregations to work here, especially to those arriving in the last 40 years.

Over these years of Claretian presence in Korea we have made a great, difficult and fruitful effort to find our concrete charismatic contribution to the Korean Church. It has not been easy, but, as I see it, we have laid a firm foundation for the future development of our Congregation in Korea.
